Procedure
- Crumble dried leaves finely and put 1–2 teaspoons into a mug.
- Pour over 250 ml of boiling water, cover and steep for 10 minutes — a leathery leaf needs longer than a soft herb.
- Strain. Soften the bitterness with a slice of lemon or a little honey.
- Drink warm, 1–2 mugs a day, for a few days at a time at most.
Extraction
- Herb:
- 1–2 čajové lžičky nadrobno nalámaných sušených listů na 250 ml
- Solvent:
- vroucí voda, louhování 10 minut pod pokličkou
- Shelf life:
- vypít týž den
- Target compounds:
- sekoiridoidy (oleuropein) a flavonoidy jsou ve vodě dobře rozpustné; nálev je hořký
Notes
A bitter taste is normal. Not for people with serious heart or kidney disease where fluid intake is restricted; see a doctor if symptoms last longer than a week.
Why it works
Hot water releases oleuropein and other secoiridoids from the leaf; the EMA monograph bases the use on tradition and laboratory studies of increased urine volume, not on clinical proof.
Literature
- EMA HMPC — Oleae folium, European Union herbal monograph — Tradiční použití k podpoře vylučování vody ledvinami při mírném zadržování vody, jen u dospělých.
